RAINBOW CONNECTION

This project was completed with a $0 budget.

While I had a few helping hands for the installation and tear down, the concept and design were mine.

Rainbow Connection was a fundraiser art project that was taken from concept to final production in 24 days. After being asked [rather last minute] if I’d like to participate in a Pride Month event, I thought “How can I make this really gay and really great?”

For the 2-day pop-up, my concept was “a walk through the rainbow,” featuring stories from local, borderland queers. I asked the participants to provide an item that represented a part of their journey as an LGBTQIA+ person living in the Southwest region. I love immersive art so this was just that. As you entered the gallery [on loan during a friend’s exhibit], you’re drenched in color and surrounded by sound. Each room represented a different person and at the center of the room was their item, displayed as a piece of art, along with their story and a personal playlist. As you meander from room to room, the colors change, the sounds change and the stories change.

Along with the artist, who inspired me to participate, we created a beautiful oasis for the local queer community in the summer of 2021 when the pandemic had us all itching for some sort of human interaction. It was a wonderful party with drag queens, queer DJs and artists, fundraising and community. Enjoy a brief video and photos below.
